New Songs (Show #199)

These are the brand new songs I played during the latest Lost in the Tracks show (#199).

"Don't Make a Promise" - Emily Davis and the Murder Police

I haven't heard a cowpunk song with the same force-of-nature singing and dynamic playing since the early Lone Justice demos. A real stand-out from the El Paso band.

"Solar Power" - Lorde

I wasn't a fan of Melodrama, which seemed too constrained in its sound and musicality to the prevailing mainstream pop of 2017.. This is much better - weirder and more individualistic. It's light summer song that fits in by playing to its own rules instead of bending to fit in. Most Valuable Guest Contribution Awards go to Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo for the exquisite backing vocals.

"Inside Out" - The Blips

First rate modern garage rock from a new band made up of mainstays of the Birmingham, Alabama music scene.

"Who Are You" - Pony Hunt

A sweet waltz with a lovely string arrangement.

"Stay Wild" - The Bones of J.R. Jones

New York state singer/songwriter Jonathon Linaberry got his inspiration for his new EP during a trip through the southwestern U.S. and you can feel the dust in the slide guitar riff that anchors "Stay Wild". At atmospheric song of dark mystery right before the dawn.

"Ramblin' With the Day" - Rose City Band

If "Stay Wild" places you in the dark arroyos of the Southwest, the country-ish "Rambin' With The Day" takes you on a relaxing daytrip stroll through the bright woods of the Northwest.

Idea and format for these posts came from the Music Savage website.
